2011-10-27 Thursday Meeting

  3. Branches/testing

    • OMERO-merge-blue is building PR 16 & 17.
      • You may have seen an email
      • Possibly way for us to collaborate: imagine OMERO-merge-red, OMERO-merge-green, etc.
    • UsingGit updated and ready for review.
      • Remove git-flow? Move branch mgmt to another page?
      • Some points to take note of: commit messages, branch cleaning, repository watching

  3. Branches/testing (started 14:02 UK)

    • OMERO-merge-blue is building PR 16,17,18.
      • Emma: with Josh, Chris and J-M we were talking brifly about process
      • Josh: The idea was to have something that we will be able to deploy and test active PRs. omero-merge-blue - hudson job allows to test 3 active PR (16 & 17 & 18), currently is merged manually. Please look at check if this is working solution for you.
      • J-M: you mentioned you merged 1 web and 2 insight branches. do we want to separate them?
      • Josh: we can have as many as we want (rainbow), depends of the requirements. If we need more boxes we can set up more boxes as we go.
      • Chris: Ola and myself look at this
        • Ola: need to adjust a few things, but not really a problem
        • One thing with apache: just run one web per machine or modify the configuration file
      • Scott: My request for testing is taking a blue concept and start from the beginning.
      • Chris: Once the PR is there, we will know what builds we need.
      • Andrew: keywords in the story could be a color like a keyword
      • Chris we do not know this in advance for testing
      • Andrew: my understanding was that colour will be associated with PR. A way for Scott to link what will be tested to a color.
      • J-M: what to test should be in the ticket(s) within the story.
      • Chris: PR should be 1 or more trac stories.
        • Chris (to Scott): goal is to have build as early as possible in the testing cycle.
      • Andrew: testing is a combination of manual and automatic test?
      • Chris: No, this is what people will test.
      • Ola: there won’t be multiple PRs per feature at one time.
      • Jean-Marie: ideally PR would be merged and ready for release.
      • Will: ‘blue’ is only for deploying web, for server we will have another one
      • Chris: we will have extra step to deploy server, you right Will.
    • UsingGit updated and ready for review. (started at 14:30 UK)
      • Josh: WorkingWithOmero/UsingGit is combination of Ola’s and Simon’s git pages (how to use git). Please review maybe before next week, where we are going to discuss about wiki pages. There are 2 big questions after reviewing it:
        • do we deprecate gitflow? do we use this workflow?
        • branch management, what does it mean PR, etc?
      • Josh: I basically was trying to merge everyone notes based on experience how people use GIT.
      • Will and Andrew uses gitflow.
      • Josh: conflict exist once you use gitflow and push to github, because you still have fork. You would need to delete in 2 steps. You can’t close them in the gitflow manner.
      • Josh: Commit messages section. Message should start with single line. It is more important with github.
      • Josh: Github offers a lot of tools for watching other’s people repositories.
      • Chris (to Andrew): feature finish doesn’t make since it’s already been reviewed and merged.
      • Scott: Can I observer how those links change?
      • Andrew: TextMate shows if you go over the commit message limit (72 characters).
      • J-M: what’s people expectation about time for reviewing PR?
      • Andrew: depends of the changes in PR.
      • Chris: if people want to remove old branches there is documentation how to do it.

  4. Meetings (Emma) (5 mins) (Started 14:44 UK)

    • General agreement is to reduce number of big group meetings. Make them more efficient.
    • Tuesday and Thur. meetings will be merged into one meeting. Rest will go to minigroup meetings.
    • Ola: meeting could be run on the beginning rather then end of the week.
    • Presentation will still happened.
    • Andrew: Thursday is more sprint review meeting rather then presentation.
    • Chris: Web meetings will move to Monday afternoon.
    • Carlos: Depends on the timing I should be good.
    • Scott: I would like to come to the first meeting of the sprint, to be up to date. Monday is fine.

  5. Generating sprint # (45 mins) Started 14:49 UK

    • J-M: Next sprint starts today and finish earlier because of developer meeting.
    • Currently we have 22 tickets in current sprint (1). Mostly documentation. I will push them to the next one (2).

    *J-M most bugs are import related. This comes done to error handling improvement in Insight. Other is heap space issue.
