Notes

  1. Accepting minutes from last meeting

    • done
  2. Matters Arising (<10 mins)

    • Scott: scripts under known limitations (can be disabled) /FAQ?
      • Need to check with Chris about technical jargon.
      • Chris: FAQ for export? Yes.
      • Chris: images currently on gretzky for testing (screenshot)
      • Insight is currently disabling export of OME-TIFF (bigimages) but not generation of JPEG.
      • Jean-Marie: all scripts related to images (projections, rois, etc.) need to be review.
      • Too late for 4.3.2.
      • Need to be aware that there's the possibility of crashing the server
    • All: export testing monday - done
      • Chris: all done and 3 main areas tested
        • Export image larger than 4GB leads to bigtiff
        • Prevent export of big images
        • web/insight handle exceptions appropriately.
          • buttons disabled in insight
    • Andrew: FAQ on root not in LDAP. - done link (also can we make the FAQ findable?)
      • Andrew thinks it is findable.
      • What else do we want to do?
      • 2 clicks from main website.
      • Chris: but we've had at least 3 people ask "is there a faq?"
      • Will: want documentation to be a top-level item.
    • Andrew: Check to see what movies are still popular/current/need updating - done
    • Chris: Reply to GiveCampUK forum message - done
    • Jason: CRITICAL Find receipt for (broken) coffee machine, productivity down 50%!
      • Digging
      • Either find it or we buy a new one.
      • Dosmestic is perhaps not enough.
    • Curtis: Eclipse metadata in Bio-Formats Git repository (re: this thread; see instructions)
      • Curtis: Melissa, Chris, et al. care about changing eclipse?
      • Melissa: don't use eclipse. Doesn't matter.
      • Chris: only eclipse user left.
      • As long as the docs are in place, should be fine.
      • Downside: have to maintain the POMs and install m2e
  3. Status of release 4.3.2 (40 mins)

    • Web
      • Ola: Only Will's changes to the scripts are left
      • Caching is only possibly fixable (50/50)
        • Web caching is based on user id.
        • So once thumbnail is cached, everyone can see it.
      • Otherwise, feel pretty good to release.
    • LDAP
      • Merged this morning
      • Hopefully the two scenarios will help sysadmin until we can do something more complete.
    • Bio-Formats
      • Melissa: One ticket open (6728)
      • Chris: came up while testing big-tiff changes
      • Starting with 4.3.2, all pyramid files are big-tiffs. No way to make that any easier.
      • Easy way to test all pixel types was to enable FS-lite for DeltaVision.
      • 8bit, floating point, etc. tested from under test_images_good.
      • Lif metadata ticket (Will)
        • Currently linking filters to channels
        • Anyway to turn off the linking
        • Better to have no metadata than wrong metadata
        • Melissa: for 4.3.2 can turn off filters.
        • Chris: limited impact?
        • Melissa: yeah, only impacts that format (commented lines)
    • Insight
      • Issue with xml-based ROIS.
        • Reporter not present.
        • Have tried to fix it
        • Tried to minimize issue.
    • No real blocker
      • QA & Hudson tickets are being worked on but can be pushed
    • The status of using the ImageJ plugin - exclusion of OME option in the drop down menu.
      • Scott: from test scenarios on Friday, Colin rased issue about password in ImageJ
      • Jean-Marie: 2 plugins to login to OMERO from ImageJ
      • One from OMERO and one from Bio-Formats.
      • One uses the other under the hood.
      • Should we announce ome-tools is another tool to login?
      • Or just say we have improved connection to load plane by plane?
      • Jason: thoughts, Curtis? Useful from CLI / batch? And relationship to alpha releases?
        • Curtis: alpha releases: we'll get that hammered out at the hackathon
        • Curtis: is "download from OMERO" maintained?
          • Melissa just fixed it.
          • Chris: do we disable the other plugin?
          • Jean-Marie: question is about the announcement
          • Chris: also about the plugin menu
          • Melissa: few questions on the mailing list about ome-tools not working.
            • That's why I tried to fix it up.
            • Not a friendly plugin, so ok to comment it out
            • But need to announce that
          • Curtis: intended to expose low level bf/omero functionality
            • Do we have that in another form?
            • Impression of rich-client plugin is very GUI centric
            • Can't scripted.
            • would be nice to have both together.
            • Jean-Marie: everything calls LOCI import plugin passing string.
            • Curtis: that's great, sounds superior.
            • Curtis: can you do a macro?
            • Melissa: instead of eliminiating, could we just move the menu entry?
            • Curtis: unfortuante feature is it has to be somewhere in the menu.
            • Curtis: ok either way.
          • Chris: we have a different release schedule for all these things.
            • Perhaps just disable and then we can re-release before 4.4
    • Release process (Jason)
      • Who's championing the list? (ReleaseProcess)
      • Scott
      • Chris to produce release packages for 10AM (UK) tomorrow
      • Jean-Marie: will need to review the LIF changes.
  4. Plan Movie updates (5 mins)

    • See Andrew's Movie email on Nitpick
    • Prioritize by wrongness or popularity
    • Will: for one popular one, there's another version
  5. Any other business (<5 mins)

    • Who controls? (Perhaps update after Tue/Thu meetings?)
    • External projects (Jason)
      • HIC / satellites are all coming online
      • Increases burden. (Includes Carlos' work on JCB, etc.)
    • New staff (Jason)
      • Brian Loranger has resigned as of Sept. 30
        • Currently taking his remaining holidays.
    • New space (Jason)
    • Scott: Number of people going to London.
      • Post meeting.
    • Curtis / website:
      • Can't get links to work?
      • Andrew to send Curtis instructions.
      • They are weird; can't use relative only absolute.
