Curtis: Bio-Formats library split is imminent
- Planned split, BF cut in half (core infrastructure for folks like imageJ, and most image readers GPL)
- Can go over this next week. Curtis will sent to nitpick
- Core going BSD license, image formats staying GPL
- ImageJ will be able then to read ome-tiff 'out of the box'
- Move is designed to support better I/O
-
Andrew: What's the big difference between the licences?
- Curtis: BSD is maximum freedom for end users, company can use without releasing changes
- Rational: ImageJ needs to be the freeist it can be, so needs to have BF modules with that
- Can revisit these ramifications next week
- GPL side will still have to buy some file formats (some will be BSD though)
