  4. 4.3 Priorities Review (for Thursday)

    • Jason: Today trying to figure out where we are in 4.3 and what is realistic to expect for release
      • Milestone Page:
        • Needs an outline ala 4.2
        • Chris: These tickets are documentation, bf, big images. Lots of tasks not covered yet!
          • Jason: Need to flesh this out
          • Jason: May 15th/June1 release date is probably more realistic then April 1
      • Calendar:
        • Going to use the 'OME Fall 2010' calendar
        • April: OMERO @ UEA is 6th to 8th, (3 more sprints before UEA meeting)
        • June: Paris meeting mid-month
      • Would be nice to do user testing before UEA
        • How much time would we have for testing (internally and externally)
        • Chris: Baseline testing of big images would require:
          • Block-based Import (in-place)
          • Which client will be ready soonist?
            • JMB: Won't start on insight till next week.
            • Ola: Bugs are there, but it works now. Needs to tie in with new rendering engine
            • Chris: Can use EM and ASCB data for testing Brian: SVS? Chris: Not working currently
            • JMB: 5 days of work in whiteboard for big images
            • Chris: By sprint 6 end should be able to:
              • test webclient up to 10k x 10k big images + panning
              • no thumbs, 100% view only
              • Some form of navigation
            • JMB: Zooming is not going to be ready by Sprint 6
            • First testing cycle right after sprint 6
              • Will: Should we then ask for realistic datasets? Chris: have some already from ascb data
          • Jason: focus of next two weeks?
            • Jean-Marie: that's what most of the tickets are.
            • Need to take time to break tickets down
            • Realistic, but still "out of the hat"
            • Dmac: Where does importer stand?
            • Dmac: How are we representing data on server (ie: one big file)?
              • Chris: Don't see us changing this before Sprint 6 end
          • Dmac: Worried about working on thumbnails & how we cache them * In thumbnail context, recreating thumbnails for big images needs some thought (could kill server) * Chris: API for BF or OMERO should be the same for getting images * Still a problem for decompressing some formats (very slow) * Chris: Are we going to calculae thumbnail at import? Currently no plan to change this
          • JMB: At end of Sprint 6, play on Friday, report bugs right away so we have tickets right away
          • Sprint 7 then about reveal/fix big images bugs from sprint 6
            • Solid viewing of Big Images by then
            • Solid plan for multi-resolution, compression, thumbnailing speed, zooming, etc.
            • Donald: if we are going to perform thumbnailing, then we're talking about scaling
              • The way we seek through IO is an issue, etc.
              • Framework for changing/updating them in place
              • Can't think of a quick way to do this.
              • Chris: discuss next Tuesday
              • Jean-Marie: matter of finding the X stories which MUST be there for 4.3 delivery (and what comes after)
              • This is a first shot. Compare permissions
            • Curtis: Deep Zoom? We have had good success. CatMaid uses the same idea: hierarchical mipmaps.
          • JMB: Spring 7 or 8 for code freeze, then evaluate
            • Jason: Where do we do zoom planning? JMB: Wait for thumbnailing discussion
      • Chris: Zooming probably not finished realistically by end of Sprint 7
      • Look at 'Top-Level Open Tickets 4.3' link in trac, all of this needs to be cleaned up
