! Notes

  • Meetings

    • Everyone join every week and leave if not interested?
    • Transitioning to non-specific meetings. On NITPICK?

    • Working. Need to discuss some small details. (session keep alive)
    • Looking into Loci plugin
    • Jean-Marie sends email to Curtis
    • Melissa: if using readers/writers, then wouldn't have to modify any/much code
  • 4.0.2

    • Insight Bugs: minor insight bug, one open bug under windows
    • Import Bugs: waiting on files, 4.0.0/1 issue also, corrupted log files,
    • Server Bugs: delete API
    • Problem handling problem?
    • Distinction between corrupt log files and log files
    • Feedback has to be logged (tangent)
      • Especially quickly when we need user interaction.
      • Send emails etc. within a day.
      • Attempt to keep users happy. 24 hour response as often as possible.
    • Error-handling
      • Need to make it as robust as possible
      • Won't be able to produce all exception caces
      • Not (just) error->send data->repair loop
      • For 4.0.2? Not really.
    • Import is where we are most exposed to what we can't control
      • We're going to break import all the time.
      • Even though we do our homework.
      • Solutions:
      • Melissa into feedback system. (EASY)
      • More info in exceptions (file name, type, etc.) (MEDIUM)
      • Upload the bad files! (HARD)
    • Plan:
      • Upgrading all bio-format jars
      • Running against LSMs

    • determine which bullet points based on attendees
    • emphasize input from community. (Less from us)
    • need a dinner location where groups are kept together, posters, etc. (19th)
  • review

    • 4.0
      • huge changes, lots of software
      • reduced usability testing
      • frustrating to be getting the negative feedback
      • testing should be scaled at least linearly if not exponentially with sophistication
      • usage is being scaled as well
    • 4.1
      • largely created after 4.0 strictly due to paris
      • maybe need to slow down, clean things up, make all the great stuff we have visible
      • videos: underrepresenting what we do & 4 weeks late.
        • of windows install?

        • movie exports
      • "distractions"
        • scripting

      • windows
        • under estimated the number of people installing on windows
        • week on click-click installer

In Attendance: Chris, Josh, Jean-Marie, Ola, Andrew, Donald, Melissa, Scott, Brian, Jason, Carlos.

  • Talk about changing to overall meets on Friday. Will discuss again with Kevin and crew next week
  • Most ImageJ done. Talk about using loci importer but it needs some adjustment. JM will talk it over with Curtis.
  • Josh suggested adding an upload file option to feedback
  • Making some changes to feedback and adding Melissa to the system
  • Releasing 4.0.2 on Monday. This fixes the server delete bug.
  • Andrew is working on the website.
  • Wednesday meeting established some sort of website layout which Andrew will show us asap.
  • Chris is working on forums and will show us soon.
  • Chris also working on XP server test accounts.
  • Follow up on new formats coming up from suppliers.
  • Would be nice to talk to the community before Paris to get some good feeback we can respond to at the meeting.
  • Sounds like we will have have a buffet style dinner around posters for Paris Tuesday night. The goal for Paris is listening to users more with us not presenting all the time.
  • Scottish EDITK informatics meeting. Dundee folks, check emails and register!
  • Do we want to solidify our efforts now and not create new stuff before Paris? Yes! Will work on polishing our professionalism. ROI's on hold, may drop some other stuff if needed like openGL.
  • Videos still need to be worked on. We should break up these and spread out the work. Insight is now too big just for JM alone, for example.
  • Windows install needs work. Maybe it's time to get the MSI/EXE installer going? Yes! Priority for the next few weeks.
  • Movie exports almost done and will be finished by Paris.
